Instructor: J. Kenneth Leap

This Master Class gives participants an intensive, in-depth experience in one art form every day over the course of 2 weeks. Participants do not select a minor workshop.

Glass painting is a centuries old technique of applying vitreous pigments to glass. Historically this process was developed to produce imagery for the great stained glass windows of medieval Europe. The technique is experiencing a resurgence of interest as a new generation of glass artists seeks to incorporate painted elements into their work. This workshop will explore the art of mixing, applying and firing, glass-based paints, enamels and stains. While the primary focus of the class will be painting on the two-dimensional surface as it relates to stained glass, students will also learn fusing and engraving techniques which can be adapted to glass tile making, jewelry and mosaic projects. Prior glass experience is not required. Two full-day field trips are planned. Please note this Master Class takes place every day, all day from 9am-12pm and from 1-3pm. Lab Fee: $75. You do not choose a minor in addition to a Master Class.

INSTALLATION ART

Participants will explore this exciting contemporary art form and new way of displaying art. Participants will use research, discovery and imagination to reinterpret found objects. They will choose 3 objects to paint, construct and embellish to create a meaningful installation that speaks about the creative imagination and secret energy of their lost and found objects as art.  This workshop is offered as both a major and minor workshop. Lab Fee: $35
